About the wine
Decanter Gold Medal Alexander Valley Cabernet
- This bold, breathtaking Alexander Valley Cabernet is a rich Naked classic, with a silky, elegant texture, lavishly long finish and a 95% lifetime rating over 6 vintages.
- Your support helped Daryl select high-end Cabernet from a pair of vineyards in Sonoma’s Alexander Valley. He's worked in these vineyards for over 25 years, so he knows exactly how to bring you its complex, concentrated flavors.
- Prestige Alexander Valley Cabs like this tend to start at around $40 – $50 a bottle, but for endlessly supporting Daryl’s independent winemaking dreams, Angels get this world-class Cab for just half of that.
Best before
This Cab will easily keep for 20 years. It's tasting delicious now, will be even better in 3-5 years as the flavors develop even more complexity and soft in the bottle, without losing any fruity vibrance.
Serving advice
Serve at room temperature or just below. If drinking soon after purchase, this Cabernet will be best enjoyed with food.
Food match
A nice juicy ribeye or lamb loin chops would be the best pairing but I love it with a hamburger and pizza too.
Contains sulphites
Wine profile
Meet the winemaker - Daryl Groom
- Meet Daryl... a 35-year veteran of the wine biz, credited eight-times as Winemaker of the Year, named by Food & Wine Magazine as one of 11 visionaries to change the world of wine... and oh yes, he served up his wines at the Oscars and Emmys two years in a row! Safe to say, the man's accomplished.
- Working as the senior white and red winemaker at Penfolds, his 1986 Penfolds Grange was arguably one of the top 3 Granges ever made - 98 points from Spectator and Robert Parker. And now that he works for you, he loves showing off wines from Australia and his California home – Sonoma and Russian River Valley.
- Thanks to your funding, Daryl can focus on doing what he loves – making great wine and sharing great wine. And he selects the best barrels he needs and farms to the best quality. "You are a gift from God to a winemaker," he says. "I knew there were Angels in heaven!"
–– "Groom made Penfolds' flagship red, Grange Hermitage, which has become Australia's most collectible wine." --Wine Spectator, on the $500+ Grange
–– "Groom is my choice for Winemaker of the Year " -- LA Times, Dan Berger
–– "Daryl Groom. The human Tornado. " -- Bill Rice, Chicago Tribune
