About the wine
Macario only makes Tempranillo in perfect years... and 2016 was ideal for it.
- Macario loves Tempranillo because it’s wild, rustic and savory. It’s wildly popular grape in Europe, but he insists it grows even better in the states. All that California sun gives it some extra roundness and power.
- Macario used his Angel funding to get Tempranillo from Clarksburg, an under-the-radar delta region with cool breezes that perfectly ripens fruit. The vineyard, Macro said, was “impeccable… managed like it was in Napa Valley.”
- This is a tailgate party wine for sure! Tastes great on its own but it's got the earthiness and spice to go with some juicy burgers if you're suddenly inspired to light up the grill.
Best before
This will last for a couple of years but it's made in a "drink now" style.

Meet the winemaker - Macario Montoya
Macario worked his way up from cellar worker to Napa and Sonoma star winemaker – leading by example for other Latino winemakers.
While Macario is Napa-based, he’s garnered attention for his Mediterranean-style wines in California – his Lodi blends and especially his Macario Montoya reds from Contra Costa’s heritage vineyards – whose label depiction of the old vines shows off the artistic talents of his brother, Maceo Montoya.
With your support, Macario’s reach knows no bounds – he is Sin Fronteras – without borders. He gives back tenfold, creating opportunities for underrepresented Latino winemakers like him through The Montoya Opportunity Fund
