About the wine
An avant-garde white wine from the Napa legend who planted it first
-
Rudy was the first winemaker in California to grow the Austrian grape Gruner Veltliner — now it's found a niche amongst cult winemakers. Rudy’s an expert on this light and fresh style, winning medal after medal!
-
Thanks to your support, Rudy was able to make a Central Coast "Gruner" — an even rarer specialty for him to make, and for you to enjoy, as there are less than 500 acres of this varietal planted in the entire state.
-
Don’t hesitate to crack open this Rudy treasure. He says, “Please do not age this wine. Call your friends over immediately, have a party, and drink up!
Best before
This is not a wine to age: the best parts of Gruner are its strong acidity, balance on the palate, and miner-like nose with hints of apricot and figs. If aged too long, the aromas will change due to oxidation.
Serving advice
I chose a screwtop for many reasons, but the two most important are quality and ease of use. A screwtop guarantees no corked character! Secondly, they are very easy to open and close again when storing the bottle for a second or third day. No need to pull off a foil and work to get that tight cork out: just screw it off and on. You will get a wine with more pure aromas and flavors, not fear of an off-bottle, and ease of use.
Food match
Oysters, shellfish (shrimp, lobster, crab), or Thai curries - especially vegetarian green curry.
Contains sulphites
Wine profile
Meet the winemaker - Rudy von Strasser
Rudy von Strasser is a Napa legend — he played a huge part in founding the Diamond Mountain District, famous for its Cabernet. By rallying everyone in the region, he put the AVA (American Viticultural Area) on the map in 1999!
Rudy met Naked through Alex Farber — he was looking to expand his portfolio with some beautiful Petite Sirah, but didn’t have enough room in his winery.
Angel funding helped make that Petite Sirah possible. When he brought us his other wines, we knew we’d hit the jackpot! Rudy’s now able to share his wide range of Diamond Mountain District wines with Angels across the country.
