Mmmm...mmmm.....mmmmm. I have been a fan of Mr. Marchesi and his Cabernets from the day he landed at Naked Wines and I am as big a fan as ever after imbibing this gorgeousness sin a bottle. Rich dark fruits abound, lingering on the palate in the long, luscious finish with just a teeny, tiny hint of spice. At present this beauty is sadly out of stock, but if it returns, in any vintage, nab some. You will thank me. I promise.

What a delightful surprise this lovely wine was, like a bright spring bud, bursting forth. I opened and served this to my gal pals at a late Sunday brunch. We all took a sip and eyes opened wide. I am not a lover of rose', nor of fruity sparkly wine, but somehow this gem won me over. Apparently, this is the top shelf version, an elevated cousin if you will, of what I've been served in past. Here were the happy exclamations from myself and my wine loving cohorts: Silky fruit at first sip, but not the least bit cloying. True to its label, with an elegance from start to finish. A subtle, but enticing nose. Bright and refreshing on the palate with a slightly fruity yet smooth finish. We three were all terribly sorry when we finished the bottle, but so happy to have been the recipients of it. Truly, this wine was joyful, elegant and for me, evoked the headiness of spring. I would strongly encourage you all to toss a few bottles in your basket. I can only imagine how lovely this will be with the bounty of summer. Oh, to start I served an amuse bouche of hand ground polenta filled with a triple cream and gorgonzola mix cheese, served in a wee havarti cheese cup. The first course, also graced by this wine, was a silky coconut curry fish chowder. Both were beautiful pairings for this marvelous demi sec. Our second course and dessert was accompanied by a red, also lovely from another of our fabulous NW vintners. Thank you, McNeill. May we be friends for some time......

I allowed this wine to breathe and aerated it as well, then drank it over a 3 day period and it was simply divine. What a marriage made in wine heaven, Syrah and Nero D'Avola. Which happen to be two of my favorite varietals. Stefano Di Blasi works his magic on these two and the result is a beautifully balanced, medium bodied, truly special Italian red. Being half Tuscan and half Sicilian, I am truly a snob about my Motherland/Fatherland wines and this is all I could hope for. Grazie Stefano, per questo vino delizioso.

Chris Condos Made with Organic Grapes Old Vine Zinfandel 2021

I am already a big fan of Chris Condos organic Cabernet and this organic Zinfandel is joining it in the favorite group. This Zinfandel absolutely benefits from a nice long decant as well as using an aerator. It will become smooth and rich the longer you let it breathe. Everything about this wine is bold, the nose, the distinct fruit and pepper on the palate, the beautiful deep garnet hue and just the right amount of spice in the finish. Rich in fruit, but not too fruity and never veering into jammy, this red should make traditional Zinfandel lovers and those who like a wine that's a bit fruit forward, very happy.

Franc Dusak Pagani Ranch Vineyard Sonoma Valley Zinfandel 2021

Decant this lively, spicy nectar for at LEAST an hour. I’m enjoying it on day two and the spice, fruit and lovely lingering, perfectly balnced finish are more front and center today. I would pair it with some rich, smelly cheese (perhaps gorgonzola!) or a chicken cacciatore. Mmmmm. If you can bear it, I’d cellar this beauty for a few years.

Matt Parish Napa Valley Tino 2021

Well, well, well....Tino has evolved, methinketh. I do believe Matt Parish is Naked Wines' red wine god but when I tried the very first iteration of this wine of Matt's many moons ago, I was less than enthused. It was fine, but a little light in the loafers for me. Well, this one pretty much knocked my stocking feet out of said loafers. Yikes, such a gorgeous garnet hue, a bounty of beautiful gams, lusciousness on the palate, slightly high tannins, which lend a nice dry finish but still lingering dark fruit that goes on for eons. I aerated it first and now that it has decanted for about an hour the tannins have smoothed and the character is shining through unencumbered. Personally I would get a few of these and cellar them, then try one a year to see how they fare. I cannot stress enough, aerate and decant, decant and decant. You will thank me and the wine will thank you. Grazie, Tino.

Jim Duane Santa Barbara Pinot Noir 2021

Well, this delectable, deep ruby hued beauty was a bit of a surprise, in a very good way. I'm not certain why it should have taken me aback, perhaps because I can be a tough sell when it comes to Pinot Noir. I adore a good one and am so saddened by the light in the loafers, lacking in depth or character ones. And let's be honest, ever since the movie Sideways, there has been an explosion of "meh" Pinot Noir wines. Well, this isn't one of those, my fellow red lovers. This has a wonderful balance of fruit and acid, being neither jammy nor lacking depth. It hasn't a strong nose, but given the marvelous mouth feel and spice on the palate as it moves toward the somewhat dry but still redolent of fruit, long finish I do not care a whit. It has some pretty fabulous gams as well. I opened it yesterday, aerated it well and adored it from the starting gate. Then, I continued my pas de deux with it today, pairing it now with a lamb burger, balsamic aioli and homemade guacamole. All involved were happy as can be. I'd definitely grab a few of these, fellow Angels.

Sharon Weeks Cattoo Paso Robles Tempranillo 2021

Mmmmmm…..this muy, muy delizioso Tempranillo is everything the label states. Berries, spice, tobacco and maybe chocolate (?) in the nose and all that on the palate with a lovely long, slightly spicy finish are the hallmarks of this delicious red. It’s a wee bit fruity, which is not generally to my liking, however it has complexity and spice and much more to balance that fruit. What it paired best with? An unctuous, silky chunk of Gorgonzola. The slight sweetness from the blackberry fruitiness was balanced by the rich, salty, earthy flavor of the Gorgonzola. Earthy meets earthy. Thank you, Sharon Weeks, for always delivering.

Chris Condos Organic Mendocino Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

For all of you who have been clamoring for organic wines, the wait is over and how pleased you will be. This Cabernet Sauvignon has great body, balance and depth which I have found so lacking in American organic reds up until now. My first introduction to organic wines was a Teroldego in the Trentino-Alto Adige region of Italy and it was superb. Teroldego is a full bodied grape not unlike Cabernet. Imagine my sadness as I searched for an equivalent here in the US, only to come up empty. I found the ones I tried lacking in depth and body. Until now. Chris's fab Cab has a distinct nose, redolent of fruit and chocolate (or maybe it makes me crave chocolate), with plentiful gams that cascade in varying degrees, some briskly, some gently, sort of like a beautifully synchronized Rockettes performance. Its medium to full body, rich fruits and slightly spicy, lingering finish are all the elements that make this an organic home run. It is bliss in a glass.

Jacqueline Bahue Sonoma County Cabernet Franc 2021

I am sooooo glad I waited a day to rate this lovely, deeply hued, full bodied Cabernet Franc. I opened and aerated on day one and it was very nice, but on day 2, BELLISSIMO. I actually dragged this bottle allllll the way from Chicago to the Italian Dolomites. I felt the need to share it with my Italian friends and brag a bit about Ms. Bahue's and her fellow NW cohorts wines. I know, it's Italy, but may I say the friends who were the lucky recipients of day 2, this evening, actually said, Wow. It sounds a little different with an Italian accent, but it's still Wow. I made linguine with a bagna cauda sauce with red radicchio sauteed in to it and a zucchini frittata for the second course. Wow. The pasta and the Cabernet Franc sang an aria together worthy of Pavarotti....even possibly Callas. Bagna cauda is a Piemontese dish that is most often served with warm, crusty bread, but can be used, as I did, as a sauce and is fantastico with red radicchio thinly sliced and served over any long pasta. It is very basically 5 to 10 garlic cloves (dependent on how many servings, I used 10 for 4), roughly chopped and sauteed until aromatic in olive oil on very low heat, then a jar of good anchovies added, pepper and again on very low heat allowing the anchovies to melt into a paste and voila'. There you have it, Bagna Cauda. Serve it with crusty bread and Jacqueline Bahue's Cabernet Franc! You will be transported to the hills of Piemonte.

Well, Mr. Harvey, give me more. Cherries, cherries and more cherries, some lovely spice in that fabulously long and just dry enough for me finish, equals bliss. I drank this wine over two nights and tonight, numero due night, accompanied by a pasta all'aglio, olio and pepperoncino, brought forth more complexity and thus more and much joy. That finish.....I am hooked.

Sharon Weeks Cattoo Ranchita Canyon Vineyard Paso Robles Petite Sirah 2021

I am just now sipping the last of this Cattoo take on petite sirah and am sad to say adieu. I've enjoyed this inky ruby hued delight over the last 3 days and it reached its peak today, in my humble estimation. It hasn't all that much in the nose, but makes up for it in the bold and full fruit, yet isn't jammy or cloying. I love that it finishes long and dry, with a hint of fruit as it lingers on the palate. It was lip smacking good with a turmeric enhanced zucchini linguini. I'd say, hang out with some cheese, or a burger or just sip. This lovely red won't judge you, either way. It's a pretty adaptable accompaniment to whatever your evening brings.

Derek Rohlffs Crowdpleazin Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel 2021

I am a HUGE fan of Derek Rohlffs' creations and love his Crowdpleazin label, so I might be a wee bit prejudiced. But, this is a marvelous little Zinfandel, my wine crush notwithstanding. It is a wee bit fruity for me, but is still dignified, with bright, nuanced notes and definite Zinfandel zip in its long finish. So if you like a fruit forward Zinfandel, this should be a definite addition to your collection. It paired fabulously with roast chicken and the following day leftovers of chicken tacos with a balsamic aioli. It was its happiest on day 3. Once again, a testament to aerate and decant. Happy spring holidays to all!
