A true winemaker love story
Years Angel-funded: 2013-18
- Boy (Adrian) meets Girl (Rebecca) are a young couple, both passionate about wine. Adrian is the winemaker extraordinaire with over 15 years experience & Rebecca, the marketer extraordinaire, both live, breathe and love wine!
- For over 10 years, their dream was to one day make their own wine - fast forward to the present and they're now finally living that dream thanks to a kickstart from Angels. These days, they own and operate Santolin winery and make loads of wines for Angels in Australia.
- Taking a more European-styled approach to their stunning Yarra Valley wines, they love making anything a little funky, a little left of field and a little bit creative.

Adrian & Rebecca Santolin's Story
"Boy (Adrian) Meets Girl (Rebecca) began in 1999 when we first met and dreamt of one day making our own wine. Fast forward to the present and we're finally living that dream with thanks to the Naked Angels who have helped make it a reality. This wine is dedicated to you!
We've tried to create what we think is the best wine from a selection of varieties, taking a more European styled approach to the process. Our aim was to recreate great moments from our past which will hopefully inspire you to create your own great moments in the future.
The company structure is pretty simple, there's Adrian - winemaker extraordinaire, who has worked in some amazing wineries in world renowned wine regions such as the Hunter Valley and Yarra Valley in Australia and the Franciacorta region in Northern Italy, and there's Rebecca Santolin - wife of Adrian and wine marketer extraordinaire who has worked with some of Australia's most well-known wine brands including Four Sisters and De Bortoli Wines.
Adrian's beginnings in the wine industry started at the age of 14 when, during school holidays he would help his dad at the local winery for a little extra cash. Born in Australia to Italian parents, Adrian was fully immersed in his family's Italian culture growing up and wine, of course played a big of that heritage.
Moving to the Hunter Valley in 2003 saw Adrian's beginnings as a winemaker. He started working at De Bortoli Wines' newly purchased winery in the Hunter Valley as a trainee winemaker and within two years, had worked his way up to assistant winemaker. During his time there the wines he helped make won many various awards including a Trophy at the 2005 Decanter World Wine Awards for the 2004 De Bortoli Hunter Valley Semillon.
In 2006 he and (now wife) Rebecca took a 6 month working holiday to London and Italy, where Adrian spent the 2006 vintage working as the head winemaker of a family owned winery and vineyard in the Franciacorta region of Northern Italy.
His move to the stunning Yarra Valley region of Victoria in 2007 saw him, over the next 5 years work at various wineries and vineyards gaining extensive knowledge of Pinot Noir production and vineyard management techniques for the grape he had so grown to admire and respect. He'd fallen in love with Yarra Valley Pinot and there was no turning back.
His fascination for the Yarra Valley region, which he saw could produce some of the most amazingly delicate, truly sensational flavour packed fruit was growing at a rapid rate and could only ever lead to one thing wanting to one day make his own. In Feb 2012, with the help of his wife (behind every good man right..!) they took a leap of faith and turned their dreams into a reality."
Adrian & Rebecca's Activity
Hello Angels,
Vintage is here!
We are now well and truly in the thick of vintage here in the land down under. It started a little later than usual this year, with the cool start to the growing season back in Spring and incredibly, I actually got to celebrate my birthday with Adrian this year. Falling on the 3rd of March (smack bang in the middle of vintage) usually means very sleepy, subdued birthday celebrations. This year however, we managed a kid-free, grape free birthday lunch, so already this year is already looking ace... and so is this vintage!
Although it was a little delayed, it's now well and truly kicked in. The warm, dry weather we've had these past few weeks has assisted with ripening and they're looking and tasting fantastic.
Some of the fruit for our 2017 Family Reserve Pinot Noir made its way into the winery yesterday, and it looks incredible - check out colour in the pics below. The colour in the BMG reds is also looking fantastic!!
We'll be sure to keep you updated, and of course if you have any questions make sure you jump straight on here and ask away.
Cheers,
Rebecca

Hi there Angels,
Well it's that time of the year again here in the land down under. With vintage looming, Adrian is now spending a lot of time visiting the vineyards we buy grapes from, and checking out how the fruit is shaping up.
Here he is during one of his visits last week, with veraison just beginning here in the Yarra Valley.

Hello Angels,
Merry Christmas! It's great to be back!
Our wines have been out of stock for a little while now, but our first wine back is going to smash it out of the ball park. It's just hit the virtual Naked Wines shelves with perfect timing, right before the big day hits.
We'd like to introduce you to our brand spanking new 2014 A&R Shiraz Viognier. This bad boy has already received 2 Trophies and only 500 cases were made. The UK and AU have already sold out of this vintage, so you guys are the only ones in the world who now have the opportunity to buy it before it's gone forever.
This big, hearty winter warmer will be a brilliant match with all your Christmas festivities, or will make a stellar gift due to it's complete exclusivity and limited production.
For those who are interested, let me tell you a little more about the wine itself...
Based on the beautifully flavorsome Rhone styles, this wine is rich and dense and packs quite a deep but subtle, powerful punch of flavours. The Shiraz creates a solid backbone of spice, pepper and fruit, while the small addition of Viognier adds a soft, subtle perfumed lift to the nose.
As it's still quite a young wine, decanting (or just opening it up and letting it breathe at least half an hour before serving) will help it to fully open up and show you the delicate notes it’s got hidden away. It will make a brilliant match with any wintery warm style cuisine, but our favorite match with this is a chilli con carne - the slight heat from the chilli pairs beautifully with the spice and pepper notes in the wine.
Did we mention it's also won two National Trophies here in Australia? The first came from the 2015 Victorian Wine Show, where it was awarded a Gold Medal and a Trophy for 'Best Red Blend.' The second trophy was awarded for ‘Best Shiraz’, this time at the Winewise Championship 2016. The Winewise Championship is an invitation only wine show held in our capital city each year, and focuses only on gold medal winning wines selected from 20 regional and national shows.
We can't wait to hear your thoughts on it!
We'd also like to wish you and your families a very Merry Christmas and a wonderful 2017. Thank you so much for your support this past year, we truly appreciate it and can't wait to do this all over with you again in the New Year.
Cheers,
Adrian + Rebecca.

Hi Angels,
It's been a while between posts! Our PG sold out a little while ago and we've been busily working in the background getting our new vintage reds ready for you! That's right, the BMG range is expanding in the US, and over the next few months you'll start to see some of our new varieties hitting the virtual shelves of Naked Wines.
We've just said Bon Voyage to our 2015 BMG Cabernet Sauvignon and our double trophy winning 2014 Shiraz Viognier (produced under our more premium 'A&R' label) which, just this week, have both set sail and should hit your lovely shores over the coming months - just in time for Christmas all going well... and what wonderful Christmas gifts they'd make!
We also spent a long and very satisfying day blending up our 2016 reds yesterday, and boy are they looking good (if we do say so ourselves!). Check out the brilliant colour in the BMG Shiraz Cab Adrian is blending below. These new vintage reds are still looking pretty young and they're a little way off bottling yet, but we'll be sure to keep you updated on their progress.
Take care x
Rebecca.

Not only is the label one of the most adorable things I've ever seen on a wine bottle, this is a fantastic wine! It was a real hit at a recent get together with friends :)

It's back!
I've been a big fan of Boy Meets Girl since my first sip a year or two ago.
This one has sooo much fruity goodness going on, but also brings some style and flair along with it.
Like I alluded to, this has been a favorite of mine for a while. When looking frantically for a lighter, easy drinking wine to share with people, I have no doubts when I find this one hiding in my fridge... it packs so much flavor, it's almost surprising at first.
Some grapefruit...vanilla...definitely some floral action (maybe jasmine or honey suckle?) but the vanilla creme flavor is what really shines through in this particular bottle. Very perky in the cheeks, but not tart or sour perky, more like bountiful flavor perky...the cheeks were just as surprised with the flavor as I was haha. It definitely stands alone among other Grigios.
Went great with cheese and some more cheese, which is one of my favorite meals ;-) .
Keep up the good work!
Cheers!!
