Carmen Stevens' Angels Reserve Shiraz 2014
About the wine
Fun, punchy South African Shiraz
- Carmen is one of South Africa's finest wine makers, as one taste of her superb Shiraz - made especially for our Angels - quickly illustrates.
- South Africa may have come late to the Shiraz ball, but it's played catch up quickly, and now produces some of the best in the world. This one, with its dark, rich plum fruit punch and smokey oaky, peppery finish is a delicious example.
- Punchy, explosive and with all the weight of a dozen half-backs, the only way to improve this wine is to drink it with a bit of cow that has been briefly shown the grill. A meat-eater's idea of heaven in a glass.
Best before
The Shiraz has all the attributes for aging; deep colour, ripe tannin structure, a great acid balance and a beautifully oak component. The Shiraz has the ability to aging for 3- 5 years in which time all the prominent primary fruit will be turn to a secondary
Serving advice
The Shiraz needs to be decanted for a minimum of 30 min before enjoyment. The contact that the wine will have with the oxygen will bring all the trapped flavour to the fore whiles smoothing out the tannin and acidity.
Food match
Shiraz is one of the most forgiving wines in terms of food pairings. I South Africa Shiraz is your typical BBQ wine because of the spicy expression of the varietal.
Contains sulphites
