About the wine
Daryl personally planted this vineyard next door to the motherlode of Grange's Barossa Shiraz
- Sexy, luscious Shiraz from one of the world's most famous wine-producing regions.
- What's more, Daryl planted this vineyard right next door to the motherlode of Penfolds' Shiraz vineyards (which go into $800 bottles of wine) so you know it's the perfect place to grow this fruit.
- Good vineyards have low yields and this one is no exception - there were only 2000 bottles produced for the US, so you may want to grab more than one if you like blockbuster Shiraz.
Best before
This wine will age well. If you like bold juicy in your face red wines with little grip, drink it now. If you like full fruit but with a little more softness drink it in a year. If you like your wines soft and complex aging for 5 plus years will reward those with patience.
Serving advice
If you are enjoying the wine in its youth sometime a little aeration helps bring out the fruit and soften the edges. Personally I like to just pour straight from the bottle and aerate and swirl in the glass. Best served at room temperature 68 degrees or below.
Food match
Red meats like beef, lamb and game. Yummy also with Indian food if you want a red wine with this cuisine. Best of all, pairing it with friends is what I like.
Contains sulphites
Wine profile
Meet the winemaker - Daryl Groom
- Meet Daryl... a 35-year veteran of the wine biz, credited eight-times as Winemaker of the Year, named by Food & Wine Magazine as one of 11 visionaries to change the world of wine... and oh yes, he served up his wines at the Oscars and Emmys two years in a row! Safe to say, the man's accomplished.
- Working as the senior white and red winemaker at Penfolds, his 1986 Penfolds Grange was arguably one of the top 3 Granges ever made - 98 points from Spectator and Robert Parker. And now that he works for you, he loves showing off wines from Australia and his California home – Sonoma and Russian River Valley.
- Thanks to your funding, Daryl can focus on doing what he loves – making great wine and sharing great wine. And he selects the best barrels he needs and farms to the best quality. "You are a gift from God to a winemaker," he says. "I knew there were Angels in heaven!"
