About the wine
Big, rich red from California Gold Country
- This smooth red is overflowing with flavors like black plum, brambly berries and mocha, plus Stephen’s signature rich finish that’s made this an Angel favorite every vintage.
- Your support helped Stephen combine 6 red varieties growing in mountain vineyards nestled in the heart of Calaveras County, blending them seamlessly for what he calls “a Bordeaux-style red with a unique Calaveras twist.”
- Stephen says this goes great with all kinds of sauce-based dishes – like his favorite slow-simmered cassoulet with rich meats and beans that perfectly complement this red’s concentrated flavors.

Serving advice
I like to open this wine up as we take the first sip of our evening's starter wine. That way we aren't rushed to get it going.
Food match
I'm partial to a slowly simmered cassoulet with its combination of meats and beans. I also enjoy it with grilled duck breast, like during my first trip to Bordeaux.

- Stephen is no stranger to gold medals, but usually his prestigious employers are the only ones in the limelight.
- We offered Stephen some Angel funding to set aside some of his favorites wines and vineyards to make a special range with his name on the label just for us, and he jumped at the opportunity.
- If you like underdogs, Stephen's your man. He will find the over-looked and under-appreciated and he will take precious care to make sure they grow into big, beautiful wines that deserve more attention.
