About the wine
Bold, barrel-aged Syrah-based red
- This velvety red blend is a refined medley of ripe raspberry and blueberry, with a light toasty spice thanks to generous aging in oak barrels.
- Your support gave Ondine access to Syrah, Petite Sirah and a bit of Grenache from her choice of vineyards across Mendocino, masterfully blending these powerhouse reds into one sultry showstopper just for you.
- Ondine's a Rhône-style blending expert, having made similar wines for legendary wineries like Ridge Vineyards. Now you help her channel that expertise into decadent reds like this from her favorite North Coast vineyards.
Best before
If you enjoy fruit forward wines this one can be enjoyed within a year of release. For more subtle flavors, 6 to 12 months will reveal more complexity. My ideal stage would be 6 months to 2 years of cellaring before enjoying.
Serving advice
This wine benefits from some breathing time, a vinturi, or generous swirling in the glass. If you have the time, open this one 30 minutes prior to serving. Serve it around 68 to 74 degrees Fahrenheit.
Food match
This wine is inspired by the great savory blends of the Rhone Valley so it's best paired with food. One of my favorites is a shrimp/crawfish boil with sweet corn, new potatoes, and andouille sausage. If you like some spice your boil, this wine can take up to a medium level of heat.

Unmistakably one of the North Coast’s top winemaking talents, Ondine Chattan’s worked for wine institutions – famed wineries like Ridge Vineyards, Cline Cellars, and spent decades running famed Healdsburg winery Geyser Peak.
Does Geyser Peak sound familiar? It should – it’s the long-time winemaking home of one legendary Daryl Groom – and it’s where these decades-long colleagues and friends met. They’re still close… in fact, they might collaborate on exclusive wines now and again.*wink.*

There are a few GSM style blends available at NW (Petit Sirah for Mourvedre here but it seems to have been blended in the same spirit), but this one seems really unique and special. Maybe there's something about the soil and climate in Mendocino that makes the Syrah different from Sonoma's--it seems lighter-bodied yet has more intense fruit (I thought boysenberry for what it's worth). Anyway, I think that Petite Sirah really adds some body to and strengthens this blend beautifully, while the Grenache has given it a nice, soft and rounded finish. Lovely.

A very nice, hearty, dry red. Not as bold as a cab but definitely had similar overtones. Very enjoyable. 9.5/10

Very approchable and utterly delicious-just really lovely! I ate this with peppered, applewood smoked bacon, arugula, swiss, Blake Forest ham and campari tomatoes on toasted brioche with Duke’s mayo and Dijon mustard-paradise!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
