Richard Bruno Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2013
About the wine
A GIANT Napa Cab from a winemaking legend
-
This wine’s rich, dark, and intensely flavored because Richard used grapes from a hidden area of Napa where the fruit ripens late in the season.
-
This is a silky, complex wine with HUGE dark-fruit flavors that jump out the glass. Wines from neighboring vineyards sell for up to $200 bucks, but Angels don’t pay for marketing hype.
-
Take the grill as hot as it’ll go and slide a steak on those bars – it doesn’t need to be a fancy one. When it’s done to your liking, pull it off and pour yourself a glass.
Best before
If you like big wines, why wait? It will drink with this same youthful structure through 2028. If you like a little age on your claret, it will age nicely and drink very well in 2020 but will age through 2040 if you can wait that long.
Serving advice
This wine should be decanted for aeration purposes right after opening. I expect that with 6-10 years of aging it will throw a harmless sediment.
Food match
I am a fan of steak. This refined wine calls for a Filet Mignon, medium rare with a red wine demi glace sauce served with blue lake beans and rosemary roasted fingerling potatoes. Then, if there is any wine left over for dessert, it will pair nicely with a rich dark chocolate cake.
Contains sulphites
Wine profile
Meet the winemaker - Richard Bruno
Years Angel-funded: 2013-2023
- Richard Bruno is exactly what we love in a winemaker– the quiet achiever behind the scenes at some of the world's most famous wine brands. He's made wine for Francis Ford Coppola and Don Sebastiani, the latter of which was named Winery of the Year TWICE under his watch.
- During his decades making wine for famous wineries and earning them 90+ scores, he has traveled all up and down California's coastal wine regions. His experience and familiarity with the terrain allow him to sniff out the best-bang-for-buck pretty much anywhere in the state.
- Launching one's wine brand is hard and expensive, so Richard is using Angel funding – and he's able to focus on winemaking, instead of selling wine.
