About the wine
Elegant, stunningly smooth single-vineyard Shiraz from the heart of South Australia
- The rich black cherry and ripe, decadent berry flavors of this Shiraz are almost too good to be true. Sam credits Forest Hut – a spectacular dry-farmed Shiraz vineyard that thrives in the blazing heat of Australia to grow tiny but mighty grapes.
- With your funding, Sam could take his time barrel aging this velvety red in a combo of toasted French and American Oak. Each barrel imparts different flavors and adds mind-blowing layers of complexity.
- But let's get back to the good stuff – the deliciousness factor is high on this single-vineyard, lovingly-crafted red, and your winemaker is so pleased. "I don't know how to get this across in a formal tasting note," Sam says, "but I think this wine is AWESOME!"
Best before
This Shiraz has great aging potential - perhaps as much as a decade. But it also has a richness and plushness which makes it a delicious drink now.
Serving advice
As a young wine, there's no need to decant this red. But as it matures it might be worth decanting. Decanting will introduce some air into it, which will help it open up if it's been maturing for a few years.
Food match
Steak and Shiraz is a match made in heaven.

Wine profile
Meet the winemaker - Sam Plunkett
- Sam is one of our Australian All-Stars. He garnered lots of attention as the award-winning winemaker at Plunkett Fowles.
- But Plunkett Fowles hit rough waters and Sam wasn't sure he'd be able to stay in the wine business...until he became Angel funded. Your support put his startup on the map.
- Now Sam is off to the races – with the same dedication to quality winemaking that won so many accolades at Plunkett Fowles – and none of the bother about sales and marketing.
