About the wine
Chargrilled steak is just the ticket for this sultry Aussie Shiraz
For Australia’s hallmark red, you’ve come to the right place. Sam’s signature Shiraz is a plush rush of flavors like bright cranberry, wild blackberry and a dab of warming spice. This red is famous for a reason!
Angel funding helped Sam harvest Shiraz from a handful of premium vineyards sprinkled throughout his home region of Victoria in South Australia, where some of the country’s most coveted Shiraz grows.
Take it from Sam, nothing goes better on “the barbie” than a powerhouse Shiraz. For a perfect pairing, chargrilled steak is just the ticket.
Best before
I like the aromatics and primary fruit flavors, so my suggestion is to drink and enjoy it over the next 2 years. But, some will age it for 5-7 years for more savory flavors.
Serving advice
Serve at a coolish temperature, not too warm.
Food match
This is a versatile full-bodied red that will go well with all kinds of meat-based dishes. For me, it's delicious with chargrilled steak!

Meet the winemaker - Sam Plunkett
- Sam is one of our Australian All-Stars. He garnered lots of attention as the award-winning winemaker at Plunkett Fowles.
- But Plunkett Fowles hit rough waters and Sam wasn't sure he'd be able to stay in the wine business...until he became Angel funded. Your support put his startup on the map.
- Now Sam is off to the races – with the same dedication to quality winemaking that won so many accolades at Plunkett Fowles – and none of the bother about sales and marketing.

I find myself at odds with this wine. One sip, I'm in love; the next, I could pass. This shiraz is middle of the road in fruit flavor, but has all of the expected nose. Big, bold, dark berries and earth fill the scent, but the palate hits differently. Adjacent flavors as noted above hit the tongue, and some dry bitterness meets the end.
Pair with a bold cut of meat (BBQ anyone?), or a nutty, hard cheese that's full of flavor.
Happy to enjoy this bottle, and continue exploring our world's flavors!

Updated review on second bottle (1/25/2025): Got another bottle of this Aussie Shiraz from a friend's gift box. It is a reliable, everyday sipper, but not one that I would pursue again. I've tried liking this type since Shiraz is one of my favorite varieties, but two years of aging over the last time I had this bottle has not improved the flavor profile unfortunately. The nose has hearty ethyl notes while the body opens up to off flavors of watered down talc and limestone with a sprig of blood orange and licorice. (Original review: 1/23/2023) Excellent aroma of dark berries and an easy-sipping body. The finish is disappointing though--too acidic--maybe needs to age longer and/or decant. I drank at slightly below room temperature (~60 F)--best pairing was with a brownie dessert.

As a poor college student my introduction to wine was in a cheap New Mexico grocery store and Yellowtail Shiraz. I emailed the company and they sent me a key chain and wine opener with the company name which has worn off over the years.
Now as a seasoned wine drinker my choice for New Year's eve was the Butterfly Effect Shiraz '21. I decanted for 1:45. I tried slightly chilled and room temp and preferred the room temperature taste. I appreciated the balanced fruit and spicey flavors. Its only recently that I joined nakedwines and left retail wine and its total lack of flavor at my price point behind. Now its confidence that every wine is going to be great and this Shiraz is no exception. Obviously other angels agree with the 95% rating and well deserved. I give this wine ***** and its a real ripper wine. I will order again
