About the wine
Dazzling Napa Cab from the Diamond Mountain master
- Rudy took this Napa Cab and cranked it to 11, giving you a deep, dark dive into delectable berry flavors of ripe cherry and cranberry plus a touch of light, smooth vanilla and an elegant softness from two years of oak barrel aging.
- There are Napa Cabs – and then there are Diamond Mountain District Cabs! It’s one of Napa’s smallest, most exclusive subregions, with some of the very best Cabs around.
- Rudy’s been making world-class Cab on Diamond Mountain for more than 30 years, and the 2016 vintage is one of his best ever! But he’s only able to share 250 cases with Angels, so you don’t want to sleep on this one!
Best before
Firstly storage is important: Aging is a series of chemical reactions which go faster when warm and slower when cold. Secondly, everyone has different taste preferences: some people like young and fruit wines, some people like older wine flavors, some people like both. When a Cab sauv is young, the fruit aromas - like cassis and blueberrie - tends to dominate the aromas, and the body tends to be a bit hard. As the wine ages, the esters that make up the fruit aromas fade away, and others start becoming more predominant - like leather, cola, soy, tobacco. As well the tannins in the palate polymerize, creating a smoother entry in the mouth, and the color molecules also polymerize, creating a more brick-like hue. In my opinion this wine is good at an of these stages, and should age gracefully for up to 20 years. However it is up to the individual to decide on what they like. My suggestion is to buy a case and open a bottle each year and watch it slowly change and morph.
Serving advice
The best time to enjoy a wine is with friends! Any wine tastes better when you are sharing with good company. (Think about Miles in SIDEWAYS disappointingly drinking his '61 Cheval Blanc alone in the fast food restaurant).
Food match
Being of Austro-Hungarian descent, I like cooking eastern European dishes like goulash, schnitzel, stuffed cabbage, etc. However, this wine would really pair with almost anything from vegetarian to bbq.

Meet the winemaker - Rudy von Strasser
Rudy von Strasser is a Napa legend — he played a huge part in founding the Diamond Mountain District, famous for its Cabernet. By rallying everyone in the region, he put the AVA (American Viticultural Area) on the map in 1999!
Rudy met Naked through Alex Farber — he was looking to expand his portfolio with some beautiful Petite Sirah, but didn’t have enough room in his winery.
Angel funding helped make that Petite Sirah possible. When he brought us his other wines, we knew we’d hit the jackpot! Rudy’s now able to share his wide range of Diamond Mountain District wines with Angels across the country.
