Matt Parish's Story
Matt kicked off his winemaking career in the early 1990s with a master’s degree in Viticulture and Enology from his native New Zealand. After a decade as a "flying winemaker” and consultant in New Zealand, Australia, Italy and France, Matt was recruited to the United States.
For the next 15 years, he held group director and chief winemaking roles at some of the world’s biggest wine companies, including Constellation Wines US, Treasury Wine Estates Americas and Naked Wines USA. In these roles he oversaw the winemaking of internationally recognized and award-winning brands and created numerous others.
In 2016 – after more than 25 vintages under his belt – Matt decided it was time to focus on his own brand and a select few consulting projects. Known for crafting extremely elegant and approachable wines we are pleased he did; in 2017, you voted Matt Winemaker of the Year!
Today Matt makes single-varietal wines and blends from throughout California, with a focus on Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Zinfandel, Rosé and Chardonnay. While many of his wines are from famous regions like Napa, Sonoma and Mendocino’s Anderson Valley, Matt’s philosophy has always been about introducing Angels to lesser-known areas like California’s Contra Costa and El Dorado counties, Montsant in Spain, the Douro in Portugal and the South of France.

Each wine is my interpretation of a vineyard, region, varietal and style, guided by one true constant, ‘make, blend and bottle only absolute pleasure,'" says Matt. I am a RETIRED computer geek that worked for a large consumer products company. I have always liked wine to a certain extent since I was old enough to drink it (or my parents would let me try it). However, I was seriously bit by the wine bug a number of years ago and began trying everything! I'm more partial to reds and sparklers than whites (especially sweet wines - color me dry), but love trying them all! Bas vers le haut!
I love cooking with wine ... Sometimes I even put it in the food!
