About the wine
Barrel-aged Chardonnay from a single coveted vineyard and a legendary Sonoma winemaker
- This rich and creamy white is everything you want in a big, classic California Chardonnay and more, with layer after elegant layer of lush tropical fruit flavors and toasty oak that wind down into a long, mouth-filling finish.
- With the help of your funding, iconic 8-time Winemaker of the Year Daryl Groom harvested his grapes from one of the most famed vineyards in Sonoma’s Alexander Valley, then barrel-aged the wine in French oak for 16 months for that perfect creamy texture.
- High-end Sonoma Chardonnay like this from a world-famous winemaker of Daryl’s caliber would easily go for over $50 a bottle. But for giving Daryl the creative freedom and funding to make this wine exactly the way he wanted to, you get it for less than half of that!
Best before
Enjoy this Chardonnay now, as I have pre-aged it for you in barrels for a longer period of time. It will easily last 5 years or so but after that expect the color to darken even more.
Serving advice
Serve chilled to around 55ºF. Best enjoyed with food.
Food match
Any white meat-based entree or seafood and creamy pastas will do. I love this wine with soft cheeses.
Contains sulphites
Wine profile
Meet the winemaker - Daryl Groom
- Meet Daryl... a 35-year veteran of the wine biz, credited eight-times as Winemaker of the Year, named by Food & Wine Magazine as one of 11 visionaries to change the world of wine... and oh yes, he served up his wines at the Oscars and Emmys two years in a row! Safe to say, the man's accomplished.
- Working as the senior white and red winemaker at Penfolds, his 1986 Penfolds Grange was arguably one of the top 3 Granges ever made - 98 points from Spectator and Robert Parker. And now that he works for you, he loves showing off wines from Australia and his California home – Sonoma and Russian River Valley.
- Thanks to your funding, Daryl can focus on doing what he loves – making great wine and sharing great wine. And he selects the best barrels he needs and farms to the best quality. "You are a gift from God to a winemaker," he says. "I knew there were Angels in heaven!"
–– "Groom made Penfolds' flagship red, Grange Hermitage, which has become Australia's most collectible wine." --Wine Spectator, on the $500+ Grange
–– "Groom is my choice for Winemaker of the Year " -- LA Times, Dan Berger
–– "Daryl Groom. The human Tornado. " -- Bill Rice, Chicago Tribune
