Rick Boyer Santa Lucia Highlands Riesling 2015
About the wine
A legend of California Riesling made this one exclusively for Angels - super crisp, insanely refreshing!
- Rick was responsible for two HUGE Rieslings in the 80’s and 90’s - Ventana and Jekel. These two wines were the most awarded Rieslings in California and now he’s back at it again, this time exclusively for Angels.
- A zesty Riesling loaded with flavors of ripe, juicy peach. With its subtle sweetness and bright, crisp mouthfeel, this is going to be one of the most refreshing white wines you’ll ever drink.
- The Santa Lucia Highlands in Monterey Country are renowned for being California’s best Riesling region and Rick knows exactly where to go to hit the jackpot. He recommends pulling this one out the cooler and enjoying alongside a round of fresh fish tacos.
Best before
This depends on the desires of the consumer. This Riesling is bright, fruity and very drinkable for the first 3 or so years of it's life. Because of the chemistry of the wine it will actually age for many years. 10+. BUT, the flavors start to change to a deeper, riper fruit (apricot, pine scents). So if you are looking for bright and fresh, drink young. If you are looking for riper apricot, drink older. I have had Monterey County Rieslings with low pH that are 30 years old and still drink beautifully.

Wine profile
Meet the winemaker - Rick Boyer
- We’ve been looking for an experienced winemaker familiar with the
Central Coast and Monterey area in particular – we knew Rick fit the bill. He's farmed gorgeous, cool SoCal vineyards for over 25 years! - He had been making wine his whole life, but got out of the biz (to start a bonsai
business) because the risk and middlemen got in the way of his passion. He's back in, thanks to you! - What makes Rick's wines special? "I take a different perspective compared to a lot of other wines out there - like Euro style; feminine; delicate - like focused generous reds, focused complex whites; plenty of persistence, fruit, and flavor."
