I had a '20, a '19 & an '18 on the rack, so I decided to start at the front and get to the others later, to make my patience pay off exponentially. I read recently that Rudy claims not to be a fan of decanting, but I daresay this wine required it. The aromas were enticing-- fresh cut wood, dark chocolate, hardwood smoke, black cherry... but the wine was somewhat astringent and off-putting straight out of the bottle. 'Tighter than,' to steal a line from Paul Giamatti in Sideways. An hour in the decanter helped, and an hour and 40 was the magic number. And magic it was. The incredible depth of subtle flavors (as well as bold ones) were a siren song-- I couldn't put it down. Best wine I've had in a long time, and the second-ever I've given 5 hearts on NW. Spoiler alert-- the other was Rudy's, too. ;)

I wanna say 'it was even better than the last one,' but in fairness, I've only had the last one once, and it's been a while. But this is pretty spectacular, and helping me finally get used to giving 5-heart ratings. Fireplace ashes, leather shop, dried violets and roses, super-dark and dry fruits, this one just keeps bringing me back in. A fine match for prime rib.

World class. Huge complex flavor. There's oak everywhere (nose, palette, aftertaste), but it's subtle enough to let the myriad secondary flavors creep in. Dark dried fruits, old wood, black earth. Absolutely transcendent, top-shelf wine.

Magnifico! What a balance between dark/heavy and bright/acidic. As advertised, it was perfect with pasta and my homemade Italian-style meatballs. This is a finely crafted gem of a wine. Way outside the supermarket/liquor store box of expectations. Believe I'll have another.

Already a big fan of the brown label, "lower tier," if you will, of Bruno's Cabs, I was holding this single-vineyard offering to a higher standard on principle. And it did not disappoint! All 4 of us who shared it knew it was going to be a great one just by smelling it. Delicious, complex, big and bold, it was 4 thumbs up! Will definitely buy more.

Mitchell Masotti Sonoma Cabernet Sauvignon 2021

My mantra is always, "Decant, decant, decant." Couldn't be more true of this one. When it comes to these big, bold and young handcrafted wines, they really need it. Minimally an hour and a half on this guy, 2 hrs if you have it. And wow, was it worth it. Dark and rich, chocolatey, concentrated dark fruit-- blackberry, black cherry-- dark wet earth, dried cherry fruit roll-up, pipe tobacco. Very deep and complex. Paired it with home made beef stroganoff, and regretted when it was done.

Excellent Chard! Such fine detail in a wine so bold. The depth of flavors is such that the subtle nuance of pears and melon on the finish come right through an oak flavor that's no wall flower. I could drink this forever... except it's all gone. : ( More, please.

We just had this with round 3 with the Thanksgiving leftovers, and this is the wine I SHOULD have opened on Thursday. Even ignoring my own mantra of "decant, decant, decant," we started sneaking tastes right after pulling the cork, and liked it right away. Good depth of flavor, dry earth and rose petals, floral notes. We were still well under an hour when we ate supper and the wine started to open. Should've waited, as after about an hour and ten, this wine was full-blown perfect for the meal. Dried fruits, violets, smokey/woody... so good. My hands-down fave of Mr. Baker's, and the one I'll buy again.

Matt Parish Reserve Petaluma Gap Chardonnay 2021

Spectacular. I've been a Chardonnay drinker for decades, and this might be the best I've had. Oakey on the nose, but not overly so on the palette. Subtle and complex flavors that were good with a spicy chicken and rice with Pueblo hot green chilies, but would arguably be better by itself. Absolutely delicious.

This one took a good long time to open up. At first it seemed like a good wine that was still too young. A bit astringent, but with a good bouquet. After a full two hours in the decanter, it was incredible. Cocoa, fireplace ashes, dry earth, the initial sharp raspberry turned to mellow dark fruit flavors. Would be great with char-grilled steak. I had it with homemade Italian style meatballs and spaghetti, but honestly it was better on its own. Wish I had more.
